I’ve Never Received Gifts — Davido Emotionally Tells Depay After He Gave Him Rolex Watch

Davido expressed his gratitude to Dutch footballer Memphis Depay for gifting him an expensive Rolex watch on his birthday. Depay, who celebrated his birthday on February 13, had a gathering of teammates and fellow footballers to mark the occasion.

Among the attendees were notable figures such as David Alaba, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jnr., Paul Pogba, and Davido himself, who entertained everyone with his popular songs.

On Instagram, Davido thanked Memphis for the thoughtful present and mentioned that he had never received gifts before, as he usually enjoys giving to others.

“N**ga bought me a @rolex on his own birthday !!! I never receive gifts I’ve always been the one to gift Pple! I love and appreciate you @memphisdepay… also lemme get some of that hair Lool,” he wrote on his Insta Story.

Memphis Depay hails from the quaint village of Moordrecht in South Holland, where he was born to a Ghanaian father, Dennis Depay, and a Dutch mother, Cora Schensema. Unfortunately, their relationship began to crumble, and when Memphis was just four years old, his father left the family.

In 2012, Memphis decided to distance himself from his father by dropping his last name. He made it clear that he preferred to be called Memphis rather than Depay.

His professional journey commenced at PSV Eindhoven, where he flourished under the guidance of manager Phillip Cocu. Memphis showcased his talent by netting an impressive 49 goals in 124 games across various competitions.

During the 2014–2015 season, he emerged as the top scorer in the Eredivisie, finding the back of the net 22 times in 30 matches. This stellar performance contributed to PSV Eindhoven clinching the Eredivisie title, a feat they hadn’t achieved since 2008.

Additionally, Memphis was honoured with the Dutch Footballer of the Year award for his exceptional displays throughout the season. His remarkable skills also earned him the title of “Best Young Player” in the world in 2015, as recognized by France Football.

In June 2015, Memphis made a high-profile move to Manchester United, with the transfer fee reportedly amounting to £25 million.

However, his time at the English club proved to be underwhelming. Subsequently, in January 2017, he sought a fresh start by joining Lyon, a French club. After spending five successful seasons there, Memphis embarked on a new chapter in his career by signing with Barcelona in 2021 on a free transfer.
