Popular Ghanaian actor John Setor Dumelo has stated that he will run in the next parliamentary primaries for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the party’s Ayawaso West Wuogon ticket.
In an Instagram post sighted by Tru News Report, John Dumelo announced his decision and, he stated that he had talked with a lot of people before making the decision. “After an extensive consultation with my God, my family and our party faithfuls in Ayawaso West Wuogon! This’s the second coming”. he said
In total, three NDC members have already declared their intention to run as candidates in the next primary election in Ayawaso West Wuogon including Fred Nuamah, CEO of the Ghana Movie Awards, and Moses Baafi Acheampong, a former Vice President of the University of Ghana SC.
About four years ago, the actor ran for and won the New Democratic Party’s parliamentary primary in Ayawaso West Wuogon, but he ended up losing the seat in 2020 to National Patriotic Party candidate Lydia Seyram Alhassan.
There were rumours after Dumelo’s defeat that he would try again in his native district of Santrofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe in the Oti Region during his party’s future primary.
On Tuesday, February 23, 2023, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) began accepting nominations for its primary elections for president and members of parliament, which would be held on May 13, 2023.
While the party formally concluded nominations in the parliamentary primary on Saturday, the nomination period for the president’s race ended on Friday.
