In a speech delivered at Suhum in the Eastern Region, former President John Mahama mercilessly mocked President Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He claims that the President and his circle of friends lied about his administration with the use of ‘big English’ and slang when they were in opposition but are now unable to fulfil their promises after being elected.
“Every one help some so that someone will continue; when you speak, they will say, Keep quiet, incompetent Mahama,” you don’t know anything. They have a foreign accent, but I have the Ghanaian one. NPP is going to come and transform Ghana in one and a half years,” which was met with mockery and laughter. We’ll only offer you one factory and one neighbourhood when we come into power. Mr. Mahama erupted in laughter after President Akufo-Addo recited a slew of his famous lines, among them “y tse sika so nnanso kom de hen,” which translates to “we have wealth but we are suffering.”
The previous administration has never been mocked by the outgoing leader before. After Dr. Bawumia said in March that “we [the NPP] have a solid economic management team,” he was mocked by the opposition party.
