Kano Market Traders Banned From Listening To Davido’s Songs

Davido’s issue with the Muslim community has gone from bad to worse after Hassan Abubakar Bawasa, the manager of the Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano State, ordered all vendors to refrain from playing or listening to his music.

According to SaharaReporters, the person who announced the embargo claimed that the market leader had issued a warning that any defaulter would face severe sanctions.

After posting a brief trailer for his signee, Logos Olori’s new single, “Jaye Lo,” on Saturday, Davido ignited controversy. The tape was widely criticized, especially by Muslims who found the content “offensive and disrespectful” to their religion.

The prohibition, according to Bawasa, is to be followed by both Muslims and non-Muslims who conduct business in the market. He added that it was brought about by Davido’s “blasphemous act against the religion of Allah.”

“Anybody who knows someone who pasted Davido’s picture in his shop, he should quickly remove and burn it because of his blasphemous act against the religion of Allah.

“Playing Davido’s music, video or sharing it is prohibited in Kano phone centres. Anybody found listening to his song will be sanctioned decisively. I convey you this message from Hassan Bawasa,” the announcer with a megaphone said in Hausa.

This is in response to Omo Baba Olowo’s removal of the contentious music video that he put on Twitter. A group of guys wearing white ‘jalamiya’ were seen in the video praying before abruptly changing to dancing in front of a mosque.

What did Davido do?

After releasing a promotional video for his signee, Logos Olori’s new song Jaye Lo, which is perceived as offensive to Muslims, Davido came under fire online. A 45-second viral snippet from the upcoming music video that some Muslims felt was insulting and derogatory to their faith triggered an internet debate.

A group of guys appeared to be praying in the video, but then they abruptly began dancing and singing, which many Muslims perceived as combining religious practices with amusement. The sight of men dancing and praying in front of a mosque infuriated many Muslims. They believed it to be insulting and excessive.

The artist’s fan base and those who vehemently disagree with the incorporation of religious ideas and imagery inside his music video have been divided by the publication of the video, which has sparked a wave of fury and controversy.
