AFRIMA 2023: Nigeria Triumphs With Significant Wins For Davido, Wizkid, Burnaboy, Asake, And Adekunle Gold

The 8th annual All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), was held in Dakar, Senegal, making it the first French-speaking country to host the event. Majority of the previous events took place in Nigeria.

At this year’s awards, the musical achievements of some prominent Nigerians were recognized. Burna Boy, a Nigerian performer who has already won a Grammy, was named the Best Act in Africa.

He also took home the trophy for Best Album of the Year, defeating competitors like South Africa’s Kabza De Small and Cote D’Ivoire’s Didi B. However, Didi B of Ivory Coast took home the trophy for Song of the Year.

Davido stole the show by sweeping five awards, making him the night’s big winner.

He received the ‘Best Male Artiste in African Inspirational Music’ award for ‘Stand Strong’, and the ‘Best African Pop’ award for ‘High,’ a duet with Adekunle Gold.

The song ‘Champion sound’ also earned him the titles of ‘Best African Collaboration’ and ‘Best Duo Group in African Electro.’

The ‘Best Male Act in Diaspora’ award was also given to him because of his work with Tion Wayne on the song ‘Who’s true.’

Wizkid won the award for ‘Best Act in West Africa,’ while Adekunle Gold took home two trophies: Best Act, Duo or Group in African Pop, starring Davido, and ‘Best Act Group in African Contemporary Music.’

Asake was also named Breakout Artist of the Year for his extraordinary run in 2022.

Psquare and a Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif gave electrifying performances that were among the highlights.
