Ken Ofori-Atta’s Performance As Finance Minister Has Been Extremely Disappointing – Sophia Akuffo

Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta has not done an excellent job, according to former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo. She claims that the Akufo-Addo administration’s promise to safeguard the public purse upon taking office in 2017 has been broken.

On Friday, February 10, she participated in a protest of pensioners outside the Ministry of Finance in Accra.

While spilling out her frustration to journalists in Accra, she said, “These are all people who have worked, they have worked very hard, they could have left the country when others were going but they stayed, they worked for the nation.

In an upcoming Upfront interview on Joy News with Raymond Acquah, Sophia Akuffo discussed the current state of affairs. In light of the current economic crisis, the government of Ghana is actively seeking an IMF Support programme.

Madam Akuffo commented on how the Minister responsible for the economy’s management has failed to meet expectations. When Madam Akuffo was asked if she has any major issues with the minister’s handling of the economy, she responded, “All I know is that you were going to protect the national coffers, they are now empty.” It’s been a real disappointment.

In addition to members of the ruling NPP, there have been calls for the Finance Minister’s resignation from a wide variety of other groups.

Sophia Akuffo thinks the President should make that call, despite the fact that what was promised and delivered in terms of economic management has not been impressive.

Additionally, President Akufo-Addo has been urged to reshuffle his cabinet and reduce the government’s overall size. Even Sophia Akuffo is worried about this.
