Kofi Kinaata Reveals How He Receives Calls At Midnight From Fans

Fante rapper Kofi Kinaata, who is historically the only Ghanaian artiste to have won the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) Songwriter of the Year award for four consecutive times, has revealed how fans call him at midnight.

Kinaata confessed that his fans are his main inspiration for creating music in a recent interview with 3Music TV, adding that for him, it is not just about the money.

He expressed extreme happiness in knowing that his music had affected many people’s lives and touched their hearts. Kinaata related stories of people reaching out to him in the early hours of the morning, filled with emotion and thanking him for the deep effect his music had on them.

Kinaata, whose real name is Martin King Arthur was in the news recently when expressed his gratitude to his previous boss, Samini, for the impact he had on his life and career.

Kofi Kinaata recalled the time he got signed to the popular music group High-Grade Family while he was still barely known and how it turned out to be an important moment in his career.

The Ghanaian superstar said that when he first joined Samini’s “high-grade family,” no one knew who he was, but that Samini’s followers accepted him with open arms during a recent interview on Urban Blend with Blakk Rasta on 3FM.

“I got signed up for the high-grade family when no one knew me. It was Samini that they knew, some tagged along with Samini his fans became automatically my fans… What Samini did for me was give me a lot of exposure,” Kinaata explained. The acclaimed artist went above and beyond to secure performance slots for Kinaata, even for shows where he wasn’t originally scheduled to perform,” he said.

“When Chris Brown came to Ghana, I was now in Accra, and Samini brought me to the stage to perform for 4 or 5 minutes. Shows I wasn’t billed to perform, even though he got me to perform. Samini gave me a lot of exposure.”

Kofi Kinaata made it clear that he has been involved in rap and music professionally since 2008, even as he gave Samini credit for being an important part of his success. Samini’s consistent encouragement and direction, however, pushed him to higher popularity and paved the way for his ultimate success.

“But he didn’t really discover me. I was doing rap and music way back in 2008, but he pushed me from one stage to the other,” he added.
