Lydia Forson Tackles NPP Over Bawumia’s Selection As Flagbearer

Ace Ghanaian actress and social commentator, Lydia Forson has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their decision to nominate Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections, despite his evident shortcomings.

In a recent tweet posted on Thursday, November 9, the influential social commentator and filmmaker expressed her bewilderment at the NPP’s selection of Bawumia, who is widely perceived to be associated with the economic management team responsible for Ghana’s economic downturn.

According to Forson, the NPP’s choice of Bawumia reflects either their lack of wisdom or their audacity to present a candidate who, in partnership with Akufo-Addo, has caused immense hardship for the Ghanaian people.

Forson questioned the decision, stating, “The NPP’s selection of Bawumia as their flag-bearer is incredibly intriguing to me. How can they present a candidate whom many people believe is involved in the current economic crises we’re experiencing?”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was chosen to serve as the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election, with 61.43% of all votes cast being valid in the NPP’s presidential election held on November 4, 2024.

Though it was anticipated that Bawumia would triumph by a wider margin, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong delivered the ‘showdown‘ he promised.

Assin Central MP Ken Agyapong finished in second place with 37.41%. Francis Addai Nimoh finished last with 0.41%, and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto came in third with 0.76%.
