Mahama Is My Good Friend But I Did Not Like Him As My President — Gabby Otchere-Darko

During a conversation with Bola Ray, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko expressed his admiration for former President John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing their strong bond despite their contrasting political ideologies.

According to Otchere-Darko, their friendship remained intact until Mahama assumed the presidency. However, he highlighted that they still maintain communication and hold a positive opinion of each other, except when their political paths diverge.

I gave John Mahama some space when he became president. John is a friend, and I have known him for years. I liked John as a person but not necessarily as my President.

Despite the political variance, Otchere-Darko disclosed that he still maintains communication with the former president through text messages.

“I still share text messages with President John (ex),” he added.

As anticipated, he concluded the interview by asserting that in terms of governance, Nana Akufo-Addo surpasses John Dramani Mahama, a statement that was not unexpected.

Similarly, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko made headlines recently for commending First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, applauding her as an exceptional role model for a distinguished first spouse.

This acknowledgement came in the wake of Mrs Akufo-Addo receiving an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (HonD.HL) from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Gabby highlighted the First Lady’s elegance, eloquence, controversy-free nature, impeccable reputation, widespread admiration, and commitment to noble causes without succumbing to undue influence. He praised her as a guiding example for “How To Be The Model Classy First Spouse.”

“She is a course on ’How To Be The Model Classy First Spouse’. Elegant, eloquent, not controversial, unblemished, loved, admired, respected, draped in integrity, pursues good causes and never ever throws her weight about. Beautiful Rebecca,” he stated.

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Rebecca Akufo-Addo shared a post revealing that she had been conferred with an honorary doctorate. She was joined by Ghana’s inaugural female Speaker of Parliament, Justice Adeline Bamford-Addo, and the country’s first female Chief Justice, Justice Georgina Theodora Wood.

In expressing her gratitude, the First Lady humbly recognized the support of God and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in her accomplishments. She dedicated the award to the resilient women and children of Ghana, citing their perseverance as a continual source of inspiration.
