Man Accused Of Killing, Storing Bodies Of 2 Boys In A Fridge To Face Trial From March 14

The trial of Richard Appiah, the draughtsman accused of killing two minors and storing their bodies in a refrigerator at Abisem near Sunyani, is scheduled to commence on March 14, 2024.

Appiah, also known as footballer, previously pleaded not guilty before the High Court in Accra to charges of murdering Louis Agyemang, 12, and Stephen Sarpong, 15.

The High Court, presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey, fixed the trial’s commencement date after concluding the Case Management Conference (CMC) on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

During the CMC, Senior State Attorney Nana Ama Adinkra outlined the prosecution’s reliance on various documents, including the accused’s investigation caution statements and autopsy reports of the deceased minors. The prosecution also intends to utilize photographs of body parts, clothing, and the accused’s fridge containing the victims’ remains, among other evidence.

Adinkra informed the Court of the prosecution’s additional witness statement from Thomas Agyei, the father of one of the deceased minors, who was unavailable due to indisposition but is expected to recover in time to provide his testimony.

Defense counsel Faustinus Yirilabuo confirmed receiving the prosecution’s disclosures.

Justice Ruby Aryeetey directed the prosecution to call their first witness when the trial commences on March 14, 2024. The accused will face a jury trial.

The trial marks a significant step in seeking justice for the tragic deaths of Louis Agyemang and Stephen Sarpong, whose bodies were discovered in Appiah’s fridge, shocking the community of Abisem and beyond.
