A recent Ghana Premier League clash between Real Tamale United (RTU) and champions Medeama was marred by violence as irate RTU fans attacked match officials.

The incident occurred during RTU’s 1-0 victory over Medeama in a highly volatile match at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Wednesday.

This unfortunate incident casts a dark shadow on the Ghana Premier League, and the embarrassing footage from the stadium highlights the urgent need for improved security measures in football stadiums. Notoriously known for rowdy behavior, RTU fans have seemingly avoided consequences due to alleged political expediency.

Medeama, rightfully aggrieved by the incident, is calling for swift action. Similar occurrences recently led to the closure of Bofoakwa’s home ground at the Coronation Park in Sunyani. Pressure is mounting on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to address the escalating issue, with accusations of selective justice following Bofoakwa Tano’s home ban for supporter misconduct.

Medeama has reported the misconduct of RTU fans to the GFA, demanding prompt action to prevent potential reprisals in Tarkwa. The champions decry the harassment and intimidation of their performance analyst and other staff during the match. The club describes the actions of RTU fans as belonging to the “stone age” and insists on a decisive response from the football authorities.
