My Vision Is To Win World Cup And AFCON For Ghana—Kurt Okraku

GFA President Kurt Okraku has voiced out his dismay over the Black Stars’ inability to secure the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship, emphasizing that it was the team’s aspiration and ambition to reclaim the coveted trophy.

Addressing the media in Kumasi, Okraku deliberated on the team’s achievements, highlighting the substantial amount of effort and resources they had dedicated to the tournament. Regrettably, their endeavours did not culminate in triumph.

“Our hope, our dream was to bring the cup back home. It didn’t work out and we can’t be disappointed enough,” Okraku said.

However, Okraku remained optimistic about the future of Ghanaian football, stating that the GFA has been reflecting on their work as a team and made several far-reaching decisions to improve the sport in the country.

“Management and technical decisions have seen us reflect on our work as a team. To reflect on what policies to help bring back the love and glory for the country,” Okraku explained.

According to Okraku, football is a uniting force in Ghana, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds and religions.

He emphasised the need for the sport to continue to thrive, stressing that the GFA is committed to making positive changes to ensure the growth and development of football in the country.

“Football is the sport that unites our country Ghana. It is the sport that has brought us together, It is the sport that has brought religious and people from varied backgrounds together,” Okraku noted.

“It’s been a reflective period for us and we have to be decisive and take far-reaching decisions that will impact positively in the game,” Okraku added.

Kurt’s tenure as the president of Ghana’s FA has been marred by a series of failures, which have been evident in the underwhelming performance of the Black Stars in major tournaments like the AAFCON and World Cup.

Once again, Ghana’s exit from the African Cup of Nations was disappointing, marking the second consecutive time they failed to make a significant impact. Their lacklustre performance on the field was evident and left much to be desired.

Following the disastrous display in the AFCON 2023, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) decided to dismiss Chris Hughton as the head coach of the national team, the Black Stars. The team’s elimination from the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) was nothing short of calamitous.

Hughton’s team failed to secure a victory in any of their three group-stage matches, suffering defeats against Cape Verde and Egypt while only managing a draw against Mozambique.

In an official statement released on their website, the GFA confirmed the sacking of Hughton, emphasizing that he has been relieved of his coaching duties. Additionally, the association’s executive council has decided to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.
