My Wife And I Had A Wonderful Time In Accra- Asafa Powell

Asafa Powell has been effusive about his visit to Ghana and obviously enjoying his stay here.

Powell, who is travelling with his wife, Alyshia, toured the Black Star Square in Osu, a significant structure built by Ghana’s first president and founder, Kwame Nkrumah, following the country’s independence in 1957.

The athlete historically informed his fans about the popular monument and landmark in Ghana as depicted by his tweet below;

Alyshia and I had a wonderful day in Accra yesterday. We visited Black Star Square. Commissioned by Kwame Nkrumah -the ‘Black Star’ represents the freedom of all black people. It was actually inspired by Jamaica’s own Marcus Garvey’s shipping company, The Black Star Line.

Powell and his wife touched down in Accra ahead of a 11-day familiarization visit in Ghana. In a video shared on Instagram to corroborate this story, the retired sprinter and his wife were given a rousing welcome amidst singing and dancing by the Supporters Union of Ghana shrouded in the legendary Ghanaian hospitality.

During his stay in Ghana, Asafa Powell would pay a courtesy call on President Nana Akufo- Addo, Minister for Youth and Sports – Mustapha Ussif, the GOC Board, the National Sports Authority (NSA) Board as well as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the African Games and other institutions.

The GOC President Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah welcomed the former Jamaican sprinter and his wife to the country and said the GOC always invited the sports icon to motivate and inspire young athletes.
