Nanton MP Claims His Life Is Less Important Than The Passage Of The Three-Tax Bill

Nanton MP, Mohammed Tuferu, says he values the passage of the three-tax bill more than his own life; he also talked about how he got into the horrific car crash on his way to Parliament last Friday, March 31.

The lawmaker who almost lost his life while going to support the government’s new tax proposals said he took an Uber from the scene of the accident to Parliament and that he was on his way to cast his ballot when some of his colleagues noticed his condition and helped him to the toilet.

He was given multiple injections and had a massive cut made on the upper right corner of his eye. Even so, he insisted once again that he had to be present in the chamber to cast a vote on the three bills.

The Member of Parliament, who is also the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, told Accra’s Citi Radio that he was driving too fast and caused the crash.

“You may not really understand what was actually happening and I am sure you are also mindful of the important bills that we needed to pass… honestly speaking, I don’t know how you are going to feel about it or whoever is going to feel about it.

When the host asked, “Did you feel like your life was less important than the bill?” The MP said, “Yes, yes, you can take it that way if you want.” I am fine.”

With his support, three additional taxes—the Excise Duty Amendment Bill 2022, the Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill 2022, and the Income Tax Amendment Bill 2022—were passed into law.
