Not Again! Jojo Wollacott Sustains Injury After Goalpost Fell On Him During Training With Black Stars

Social media is up in flames once again with varied interpretations as Jojo Wollacott, the first-choice goalkeeper for Ghana suffered a new injury on Tuesday night in Kumasi during a Black Stars practice.

During a training session ahead of Ghana’s match with Angola, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Wollacott got injured when a goalpost collapsed on him. The medical staff helped the 26-year-old goalkeeper to his feet before he hobbled off the field.

Jojo Wollacott sustained a finger injury prior to his final professional match before the World Cup. Wollacott, 26, of Charlton Athletic, suffered an injury while warming up for a League One game at Burton almost a week before the commencement of the World Cup.

His head coach Dean Holden provided an update on the goalkeeper’s condition, saying that Wollacott’s fingers had a wire removed and are still healing.

“Jojo Wollacott has had the wire removed from his finger and that’s gone well. The surgeon was pleased with that so we now need to make sure the finger heals. As soon as that’s the case, we step him forward and move him back into training in the next couple of weeks” he said.

He was therefore not included in the Black Stars roster for Qatar. The first game will take place on March 23 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with the return meeting scheduled for Luanda on March 27.
