I’ve Been Disrespected A Lot – Asamoah Gyan Cries Out

Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Asamoah Gyan said he has been acknowledged enough despite being one of the players who have made significant contributions to the country.

Following his retirement announcement, members of parliament took turns to honor Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and the first player to score in nine straight international competitions.

During a visit to the office of Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the former Sunderland marksman shared his joy at having finally found inner peace.

“Before, I’d say I had not been celebrated enough, because there was lots of disrespect, and I feel like I am one of those guys who put Ghana on the map; the masses can confirm that, but seeing what went on in Parliament, I am now beginning to understand, and I’m beginning to feel appreciated by Ghanaians.”

“I don’t really care about what people say, but Parliament has confirmed, and I’m sure the masses also know in their hearts that I should be celebrated. I always say the numbers don’t lie”, Asamoah Gyan said.

The 37-year-old announced his retirement from professional football on June 20, 2023 in Accra, during the AfCFTA Afriexim Bank Africa Trade Gateway Conference.

In his first professional season with Liberty Professionals back in 2003, Gyan scored ten goals in 16 games for the Scientific lads before moving to Italy to play for Udinese. In his whole professional football career, Gyan spent his time playing for Rennes in France, where he scored fourteen goals in forty-eight league matches over the course of two seasons.

Gyan broke Sunderland’s transfer record when he joined the Premier League team in 2010, and over the course of two seasons, he scored ten goals in thirty-four Premier League games. He is the leading African scorer in World Cup history with six goals and scored 51 goals in 109 games for the national team, the Black Stars.
