Nothing Wrong If Side Chicks Date Our Husbands—Empress Gifty

Empress Gifty sparked controversy online by supporting the actions of side chicks and justifying their behaviour in breaking up marriages.

The gospel singer referenced the Bible, specifically the relationship between Hagar and Ishmael, to defend her stance. She argued that since God approved of their relationship, there is nothing wrong with women dating married men.

However, she advised against getting pregnant by married men, as they would ultimately return to their wives. Empress Gifty shared her perspective during an appearance on TV3’s New Day show, attributing women’s involvement with married men to the hardships they face in life.

“I said if you are a side chick, don’t get pregnant for somebody’s husband, but you can be with the person. You can read the story about Abraham, Hagar and Ishmael in the Bible. Side chick did not start recently, its been there since. My concern is that don’t get pregnant for somebody’s husband because he would break up you with you.

“Those things happen due to circumstances. The women who date married men is because of hardship and financial difficulties so they do it for support,” she said.

It is important to highlight that this is not the first time the ‘Aseda’ hitmaker has expressed this perspective on marriage.

In 2023, she disclosed on Accra FM that women ought to acknowledge that infidelity is a component of marriage and should not consider leaving their spouses due to unfaithfulness.

She contended that if they grasped this idea, it could prevent numerous spouses from experiencing severe heartbreak.

“What I can say it that, if you are a married man or married woman, cheating is part of marriage,” Gifty noted.

“If you don’t bear that in mind, you will go mad when it happens to you. You see, don’t see your husband as Holy Ghost. Don’t consider your wife as [Hail] Mary. No. Acknowledge that your partner is a human being. Think about divorce just as you thought about your wedding,” she added.

She said it is easier to forgive one’s partner if they have already psyched their minds up for unfortunate situations such as cheating.

“You are able to forgive if you see it as their weakness. Because if you don’t love their weakness, the marriage will not survive,” she further stated.
