NPP Elections: Boakye Agyarko’s Campaign Team Denies Reports That He Has Stepped Down

Boakye Agyarko’s campaign team has denied reports that he has withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s primary flagbearer elections so that Francis Addai Nimo can run in the upcoming elections on November 4.

The team claims that those rumors are “totally false” and that no one should not pay attention to them.

“It has come to the attention of Hon. Boakye Agyarko that Time FM 97.7 and Asaase Radio have shared a flyer on social media suggesting that he has stepped down for another contender, Mr. Addai Nimo… It should be placed on record that the post by the FM station is TOTALLY FALSE.”

There were ten candidates from the New People’s Party (NPP) running, and the goal was to choose five of them to move on to a second round of voting in November.

In the elections held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, Dr. Bawumia received the most votes nationwide. He got 629 votes, which accounts for 68.15% of the total vote. The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, secured the second position in the election with a total of 132 votes, which is 14.30% of the total votes.

In third place, with 10.85% of the vote, was former Trades Minister, Alan Kyerematen; in fourth place, with 4.01% of the vote, was former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

On the other hand, there is a tie between Boakye Agyarko, the ex-energy minister, and Francis Addai Nimoh, as each received 1.03 percent of the vote. On Saturday, September 2, there will be a runoff between the two candidates.

In total, 955 delegates from across the country cast their ballots at one of 17 polling locations.
