NPP Primaries: Bawumia’s ‘Boy’ Defeats Tano North MP

Spokesperson for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako has pulled a surprise by defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament for Tano North, Freda Prempeh in the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries.

Out of a total of 688 total votes cast in the Saturday, January 27, 2024, election, Dr. Boako garnered 444 votes, defeating the MP who also doubles as Minister for Sanitation.

Saturday’s election concludes the NPP’s internal election processes ahead of the December 7 general election.

Dr Bawumia last year was elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has been leader of the party since 2008 and president of Ghana since 2017.

The vice president is expected to name his running mate in the coming weeks as the party gears into full campaign mode for their agenda to “Break the 8.”
