NPP Primaries: Gun Drawn As Supporters Of Incumbent MP And Contender Clash At Asunafo North

There continues to be rising tension as the ruling New Patriotic Party nears its January 27, parliamentary primaries.

Ahead of the primaries, some supporters of the incumbent Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, Evans Opoku Bobbie and his contender, Nana Yaw Boadu have been embroiled in a heated exchange which turned physical on January 18, 2024.

The incident is said to have occurred on the premises of Rejoice FM in Mim Ahafo during the radio station’s morning programme dubbed “Amansan Ntie.”

According to reports, a member of the MP’s campaign team who doubles as the Assembly Member of Airport-Asukese Electoral Area, Farouk Sandy Amankwa, stormed the radio station to confront the Nana Yaw Boadu.

In the ensuing fracas captured on tape, the enraged Farouk Sandy pulled out a pistol but was held back some people who were present at the scene.

Prior to that, Nana Yaw Boadu who was earlier engaged in an exchange with the gun-toting assemblyman entered his car and sped off from the scene.

Meanwhile, the national leadership of the NPP has announced that it has cleared a total of 359 candidates to contest in the January 27, primaries across various constituencies in the country.

In all 376 persons were vetted out of which some 17 were disqualified from contesting in the election.

Some 33 of the candidates were also cleared to contest unopposed in the upcoming election.
