People Are Dead Because Of You, Resign Now – Sefa Kayi ‘Fires’ Health Minister

Kwame Sefa Kayi, the host of the Peace FM’s morning show has expressed strong disapproval of the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, and called for his resignation due to his severe incompetence, which has resulted in the loss of lives.

During a conversation on Peace FM’s morning show with Nana Akomea, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s communication team, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, Kwame Sefa Kayi urged Nana Akomea to convey the message to Kwaku Agyemang Manu that he should step down if he is unable to fulfil his duties as a health minister.

Kwame Sefa Kayi was deeply troubled and unsatisfied with the minister’s handling of the closure of Korle-Bu’s renal unit, which allegedly led to the deaths of ten patients. He also noted that the minister’s authority has diminished, as his subordinates no longer follow his instructions.

“I want to give you a message to deliver on my behalf since you are a part of the government. Please tell Opanin (the elder) Agyeman Manu that he can step down as health minister if he can’t continue with his work”, he told Nana Akomea to tell the health minister.

The reopening of the unit, which had been closed since May 2023, was ordered by the health minister in response to public outcry. However, despite the order, the facility remained closed until November 8.

As a result, Sefa Kayi believes that Mr. Manu has lost his authority in his sector, as his subordinates have shown disregard for his orders.

“This situation serves as a clear example that when your subordinates ignore and disrespect your orders, your authority is diminished,” he added.

According to the journalist, approximately 10 lives have been lost since the closure of the unit, a matter that seems to be of no concern to the health minister.

“Kwaku Agyeman Manu ordered the reopening of the unit, and till date, it remains closed (as of November 7, 2023)

He said, “The Korle Bu Renal unit is wallowing in about $4 million dollars, or euros or pounds, whatever it is. For this reason, the unit has been closed since May and since May more than 10 people have died! People have died!

“Tell Agyeman Manu that people have died at Korle Bu renal unit and it has been months yet. He is still looking unperturbed.

When Nana Akomea tried to calm him down, he resisted, saying that he wanted to air this grievance.

“This is a very serious message I’m giving you, with all seriousness,” he said.

The unit was closed to outpatients on May 22, 2023, due to increasing operational costs and debts.
