President Akufo-Addo Appoints Major General Oppong-Peprah as New Chief Of Defence Staff

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah as the new Chief of Defence Staff, effective Thursday, 1 February 2024.

The appointment comes following the upcoming retirement on the same date of the current Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama.

The announcement, conveyed in a statement by Eugene Arhin, the director of communications at the Office of the President, also discloses the appointment of Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona as the new Chief of Army Staff, succeeding Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, with effect from 1 February 2024.

Both appointments are subject to consultation with the Council of State, in line with Article 212 of the Constitution of the Republic.

Major General Onwona, the former Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, assumes the role of Chief of Army Staff.

Rear Admiral Issah Adams Yakubu and Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe will continue in their positions as Chief of Naval Staff and Chief of Air Staff, respectively, according to the statement.
