Sing-A-Thon- Why We Asked Afua Asantewaa Not To Go Any Further—Medical Team

It has emerged that it was the medical team of Afua Asantewaa who gave her the indication to cease the singathon, when she reached 126 hours and 52 minutes. Dr Buckman, who leads the team, stated that her lack of sleep in the past few days has had negative effects on her body and overall well-being.

Furthermore, they have revealed that Afua began displaying signs of mental stress through unnecessary comments and gestures, which was anticipated medically and explained to her before the start of the competition. This new development has augmented the aura of entertainment in Ghana.

Therefore, to prevent any severe health complications, the medical team insisted that she end the singathon, despite her initial plan to conclude it on Saturday or by midday Friday.

In conclusion, the team has worked to strengthen her mental resilience and expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana for their tremendous support.

“There’s only a point you can go as a person. She has done so well and we are extremely proud of her. We have gotten to the point where, as a medical team, her health is very important. At the moment, we want her to rest so she will bounce back to us,” Dr Buckman said.

As it stands now, Afua Asantewaa has surpassed the previous record holder by breaking the longest singing marathon by an individual, surpassing the 105-hour mark by clocking 126 hours and 52 minutes. This remarkable achievement was accomplished through a five-day event that commenced precisely at midnight on Sunday, December 24th and concluded on December 29th, 2023.

Afua views this as a wonderful opportunity to showcase exceptional Ghanaian music to the world. She has committed to exclusively performing local music throughout her record-breaking attempt.

The event garnered immense support from thousands of music enthusiasts and well-wishers, including mainstream celebrities in Ghana, who gathered at Akwaaba Village to show solidarity and witness this historic moment. As part of the evidence, Miss Asantewaa mentioned that she is required to document all her practice sessions, preparations, and interviews, which will be included in the final video of her attempt.

During the attempt itself, Afua clarified that she is allowed to sit, stand, or lie down as long as she continues singing; the position does not matter. However, unlike typical music performances, she is not permitted to jam or hum along to the songs, and there will be no drumming. Nevertheless, she can engage in conversation between songs.

Overall, Afua Asantewaa’s record-breaking endeavour has not only captivated the attention of music enthusiasts but has also provided a platform to promote Ghanaian music on a global scale.
