Dafeamekpor Alarmed Over ‘Conflicting’ Figures On Monies Spent On National Cathedral Project

South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor is claiming that government may have misappropriated funds allocated towards the construction of the National Cathedral.

He claims that when Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta testified before the ad hoc committee formed to look into a vote of censure against him, Ofori-Atta said that GH 339 million had been spent on the Cathedral project.

However, when questioned by a parliamentary committee, representatives from the National Cathedral Secretariat said that they had only received GH 225 million.

While testifying before the Adhoc Committee in Parliament, Ken Ofori-Atta presented a receipt for the GHS 339 million he gave to the National Cathedral.

Nonetheless, when the Cathedral executives appeared before the joint Committee on Trade and Sports, they had received just GHS 225 million,” reads part of a tweet posted by the MP on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

He said documents were provided to the committee that outlined the costs associated with the National Cathedral project.

These documents included the sums distributed for the preparation of the construction site, the mobilization of contractors, fundraising operations, consultation, and two major conferences.
