Stonebwoy Talks New Album, Afrobeats, Capella Grey Collaboration, US Show, And More

Stonebwoy was on The Breakfast Club over the weekend, and he talked about a wide range of issues bordering on his persona and the music genres he specializes in.

The Bhim Nation boss defined the scope of Afrobeats and why it has become the dominant genre being specialised in by contemporary artistes springing up in Africa.

During the interview, he was asked if there are other genres in Africa, and this what he had to say:

Um, I think right now it’s um, it’s basically Afrobeats is the mother name or the umbrella name. , but it stems from a lot of inspiration that comes from the motherland because you know, you’ve been there, you’ve been there. You can understand the number of subgenres and styles that influence the mother Afrobeat.

We should be probably just tapping into maybe 30% of what you guys hear as Afrobeats. Mm-hmm. . Mm-hmm, Yeah. By the time everything taps improperly, bro. That’s where I think, I mean, people know already that Africa is a Motherland basically. Mm-hmm. and there are millions of styles that, you know, erupts from there.

He also revealed getting in the studio with American artistes whiles he is there.

“I went to Jamaica to do, uh, one of the biggest festivals over there, and then I came back here. I was in the studio with, um, I mean yesterday I did a session with Capella Grey. You know, I really love his sound. The last time was with Kerry Hilson . We dropped, one beautiful song before, so, you know, in the pipelines we are pushing things and my album is about to drop anywhere in March, and there are some surprises on the album, and my headline show is in March as well, here in New York.”

Stonebwoy signed with Def Jam Africa, a Universal Music Group label division, in the first quarter of 2022. Def Jam Africa will represent his music across Africa, while Def Jam Recordings will become his label home in the US, and 0207 Def Jam will support the record in the UK.

According to the press release, this partnership between labels shows “UMG’s global commitment to introducing Stonebwoy’s eclectic sound and Ghanaian music culture to new audiences around the world.”

His single, “Therapy,” was released via Def Jam Recordings, 0207 Def Jam, and Def Jam Africa. The single is the first release for Stonebwoy’s newly signed record deal with Def Jam and is the lead single from his new album, which he mentioned.
