Students of Krobea Asante Technical & Vocational School Questioned By Police After shut down Over Disturbances

Some forty students of the Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School have been questioned by the Police over their alleged. This follows disturbances in the school located at Effiduase Asokore in the Sekeyere East District of the Ashanti Region.

The school has been closed down temporarily by the Ghana TVET Service. This was after the students went on rampage and caused damage to school property on Sunday, January 22, 2023.

The irate students allegedly broke into the school’s storeroom, damaged food items and caused power outage. Its is however unclear what angered the students.

However, unconfirmed reports say the students may have been angered by the poor performance of their predecessors in the 2022 end-of-year examination.

The Coordinator of Senior High Schools in the Sekeyere East District, Ebenezer Kwesi Opoku, told Citi News that about 40 students have been picked up by the police for questioning.

“The police have invited about 40 of them for questioning. Unofficially what we hear from sources is that they are not satisfied with the results of their predecessors. Last Friday, January 20, 2023, the school authorities had a meeting with the P.T.A. and we were told they were not happy so that is what we have heard that is the immediate cause of the disturbances. We are hoping that the police investigations will unravel any other cause or not,” he said.

In a statement issued by the Ghana TVET Service, it advised parents to pick up their wards from the school and expect further updates on the development.
