Students Show Mahama ‘Pepper’ During Independence Day In Volta Region
A video showing students from Keta Nursing Training College holding placards with messages mocking John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy has caused a stir online.
Most Ghanaians have argued correctly that the Independence Day celebration is a national event that should be free from political affiliations, which is why the video has sparked concerns among discerning Ghanaians.
Adding to the controversy, an officer at the parade was seen raising a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag instead of the Ghana flag while standing on the red carpet during the Independence Day Celebration on March 6.
While the source of the anti-Mahama messages displayed by students has not been confirmed, some social media users, believed to be supporters, claim that they originated from Keta Nursing Training College.
The 2024 Independence Day celebrations were held at regional and district levels, with the national program taking place in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region.
Participants in the national parade included members of security agencies, government officials, and school children, while district-level parades mainly featured students from primary to tertiary education levels.
