NPP’s Owusu Bempah Brands United Showbiz A Useless Program

Ernest Owusu-Bempah has characterized UTV’s prime-time show, United Showbiz, as a show devoid of value and has provided a rationale for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) issuing a warning to the station to modify its programming.

In an interview on Wontumi TV, Owusu-Bempah expressed his discontent with the entertainment show, suggesting that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were in power, its party supporters would forcefully enter UTV premises to halt the show. The NPP spokesperson contended that the panellists on the show lacked a clear objective and utilized the platform to criticize the government, thereby tarnishing its reputation.

During the interview on the TV station owned by Chairman Wontumi, Owusu Bempah said “Yes, they have been paid at the UTV program, why are you afraid? That showbiz program that they are doing, the useless program, and the NPP we are sitting down there?

“If it was NDC in power and NPP were doing such a program on TV, the youth would have ransacked the place. The NDC would have not given you a dog’s chance and people without any life sit there and attack the government as if there is no tomorrow,” he added.

Relatedly, A Plus expressed strong disapproval towards a letter by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which requested that United Television (UTV) implement changes to their widely viewed United Showbiz program.

The former musician, who is both a political activist and media personality presently, expressed serious concerns about the validity of the NPP’s concerns in the letter.

A-Plus has expressed his anger at the party for attempting to subvert the constitutional provision regarding media independence, stating, “This letter is appalling because we have received threatening calls from people plotting to disrupt the show. NPP members should refrain from such actions and should not write such letters again. This is an absurd letter.”

He continued by asserting, “No one in this country can dictate what we do on this show, especially when the president is a seasoned lawyer and someone who believes in the rule of law.”
