Texas Mom Arrested For Leaving Children Home Alone For Two Months

A mother, Raven Yates, 31, from Texas, was arrested after reportedly leaving her two young children home alone for over two months while she was out of state with a male friend in Mobile, Alabama.

According to Roman Forest Police, Raven Yates, 31, reportedly left her 12-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son home alone from September 28 to November 14. Throughout this time, the children had limited access to food and medical supplies.

The girl’s father became concerned when he learned that Yates had been seen in Mobile without her children and that she had been routinely requesting that he send food. Eventually, family members located Yates in Mobile and notified the girl’s father that the children were not with her.

Authorities told ABC13 that Yates had told her daughter that the girl’s father would take her and leave her brother alone if she told anyone.

The publication said that the girl would call her father and say that Yates was working to get him to send food to the house.

Raven Yates has been charged with two counts of child abandoning a child with no intention to return.

On December 8, a warrant for her arrest was issued. Since December, detectives had been hunting for Yates, and on March 9 in Mobile, Alabama, a U.S. Marshals task group had to break down her bedroom door in order to arrest her. She is accused of abandoning and endangering her children without any intention of returning.

After details of her story were made public, police said Yates was actively making social media posts about the situation, which led to her being located at an apartment complex in Mobile.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is holding Yates pending her extradition to Texas, where she will face charges. As soon as he realized they were alone at home, their father left California immediately to bring them to safety.
