Inaki Williams has received immediate support from head coach Chris Hughton after his misfiring form for Ghana gained the spotlight.
The Black Stars travelled to Angola on Monday for the second leg of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers where they drew 1-1.
This means after eight games wearing the Ghanaian jersey, Williams, an Athletic Bilbao player, is yet to score his first goal for the Black Stars. Hughton insists the forward from Spain adds more to the team despite his goal-scoring slump with the Black Stars.
He said;
It’s very much part and parcel of the game. What we know about Inaki is he is a very good player, playing in a good team in a good league. With someone like Inaki it’s not all about goals. You know he plays consistently for his team, he is a play that makes a lot of runs, he stretches play which sometimes benefits other players. The goals will come but sometimes it doesn’t come as quick as you want. What’s more important for us is his contribution.
Similarly, Ghana’s most prolific player of all time, Asamoah Gyan has urged Ghanaians to have patience with the new frontman for the Black Stars, Inaki Williams who is having a difficult time adjusting to life with the Black Stars.
Inaki Williams, who has spent all of his playing career in Europe, has found it challenging to transition to the African game since changing his country to Ghana, according to the estimation of Asamoah Gyan who was at the Baba Yara Sports stadium to watch Ghana’s game against Angola.

We need to give him more opportunities. He is improving even though he hasn’t found his feet yet but I’m sure his first goal will open the floodgates and many more will follow.
His first goal will boost his confidence level. Let’s keep supporting him,” Asamoah Gyan told Kumasi-based Akoma FM. Inaki Williams since making his debut for the Black Stars against Brazil has played against Nicaragua, Switzerland, Portugal, South Korea, Uruguay and Angola.
