Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew, is allegedly being targeted by individuals within the Ghana Football Association (GFA) hierarchy, according to Ghanaian sports journalist Kwaku Yeboah.
He spun the conspiracy theory hinged on some happenings within the Black Stars since Chris Hughton’s appointment as the substantive coach of the Black Stars and circumstances surrounding Dede Ayew’s failure to participate in the two-legged AFCON qualifier against Angola.
Andre Ayew was dropped from the starting eleven, according to Kwaku Yeboah, but Chris Hughton still put his name on the squad sheet before it was turned in.
To this end, the former GFA Normalization Committee’s spokesperson claimed that Andre’s removal from the team sheet for Ghana’s AFCON qualifier versus Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, March 23, 2023, revealed the attempts to sabotage him.
“Kwami, there are attempts to sabotage him (Andre Ayew) to some extent. Kwami have you asked yourself why a coach will ask a player to warm up if he did not include him in his team sheet for the match day?”
“The coach will do his lineup plus and substitution and submit it to the team manager. So how Andre Ayew’s name got missing from the team sheet is still a mystery,” Dan Kwaku Yeboah said on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show.
Similarly, fiery sports presenter Countryman Songo has mentioned Black Stars captain Andre Ayew was victimised by Chris Hughton in relation to Black Stars’ match against Angola in the AFCON qualifier.
Songo whose real name is Patrick Osei Agyemang said when it was time for hiring a coach for the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association requested Ayew’s opinion as the team’s captain on the potential hiring of Chris Hughton and Kwasi Appiah.
Ayew’s opinion of Chris Hughton, which he confided in the President of the Ghana Football Association, according to Songo, is the reason the coach decided to bench him for the first leg of the doubleheader against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on March 23.
“You enquired from the player if he believes Kwasi Appiah was the right man for the job and he offered that Kwasi Appiah is a local coach who with the right support will do a good job with the team. He said that Kwasi Appiah knows the terrain and knows how to navigate African football.
“The president also asked him and he vouched for him but said that he will only be successful if he is allowed to bring his own backroom staff. What’s wrong with said? He told the truth about what could help any of the coaches. So what sin did he commit”, he said on the latest edition of his Fire for Fire show on Adom TV.
