They Thought I Could Not Speak English- Gloria Sarfo Reveals How ‘Efiewura’ Series ‘Affected’ Her

Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has disclosed that her involvement in the popular and long-running TV series Efierwura hurt her opportunities to appear in prominent Ghallywood films.

During an interview on Ladies Circle on TV3, she elaborated on how certain producers doubted her ability to communicate effectively in English due to the Twi-focused nature of Efiewura.

Consequently, she said this perception hindered her chances of being cast in certain movies and being featured as the main actress in promotional materials, despite her role as the lead actress in the film.

“Before I used to get worried, I use to talk a lot. Before I had a tag about the Efiewura I was doing so people I thought I couldn’t even express myself in the English Language so everything was about I am a local actress because of Efiewura.

“Someone actually told me that because of my active role in Efiewura, I may not be able to feature as a wealthy man’s daughter in any glamour movie,” she said on The Ladies Circle on TV3, May 4.

She stated that, in contrast to popular belief, it was her fluency in speaking Twi in films that led to her winning the Best Supporting Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in March 2020.
