Tory Lanez And Legal Team File Appeal In Shooting Conviction

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has filed an appeal after being found guilty of three felonies in the 2020 shooting of fellow hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion.

Lanez was convicted of felony negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm.

The shooting left Megan Thee Stallion wounded with bullet fragments in her feet. Lanez faces up to 22 years in prison. Lanez’s lawyer, Shawn Holley, has filed an appeal on his behalf.

The appeal argues that the evidence presented at trial was insufficient to support the verdict and that the trial court made several errors in admitting evidence and instructing the jury. The appeal also argues that the prosecutor engaged in misconduct during closing arguments.

Tory’s lawyer, famed criminal defence attorney Jose Baez, claims in legal documents obtained by TMZ, prosecutors submitted a shirtless photo of Tory with a firearm on his chest. During trial, prosecutors said it was merely for identification purposes, but Baez is calling BS, saying prosecutors used the photo to underscore to the jury his client had a fondness for weapons.

Lanez has maintained his innocence throughout the trial. During the trial, Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez became enraged after she had disparaged his musical talent and fired five rounds at her.

Lanez’s lawyer alleged that the shots were actually fired by Megan Thee Stallion’s friend.
