Bullgod has revealed that Ernest Owusu Bempeh, the Deputy National Communication Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had previously made threatening remarks towards him during a call-in to the show.
This assertion lends credence to the speculation that Bempah may have been responsible for the violent attack on the United Showbiz program by alleged NPP members.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 7, 2023, when the group stormed the UTV studios during a live broadcast. During an interview on the Morning Starr program with Francis Abban on Monday, October 9, 2023, Bullgod clarified that the situation was not unfamiliar to the panelists and the television station.
“We will not be intimidated in any way, especially those of us on the panel because this is an attack on our freedom to express ourselves. Everybody that sits on that show is in danger and we will not allow this to be swept under the carpet. We won’t allow that.
“These things have been going on, there are few times that we have heard them and they have been calling management. I don’t know if early this year or late last year somebody like Owusu Bempah, the guy who was at Ghana Gas, has called into the show to actually threaten me,” Bullgod stated.
According to him, the development was not new to the panelist since “this has been a buildup so what happened last Saturday is just an icing on the cake for them.”
However, the Ghana Police Service has disclosed that sixteen persons have been arrested for invading the UTV studios on Saturday evening.
“Following a complaint from the Despite Media Group and Ministry of Information that certain people had invaded the studios of U-TV this evening, the Police proceeded to the scene and arrested sixteen (16) persons in connection with the incident. “They are currently at the Police Station assisting investigations,” Ghana Police Service added in a brief statement.
