NPP’s Owusu Bempah Drags KKD’s Gay Son Into Banter

The ever-fiery Ernest Owusu Bempah has launched a scathing attack on Ghanaian broadcaster Kwesi Kyei-Darkwah popularly known as KKD to deliver an important message to his gay son in London and stop meddling in the affairs of the ruling government.

The Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), slammed the veteran broadcaster and MC for saying whoever coined the infamous ‘breaking the 8’ slogan championed by the NPP ahead of the 2024 elections is a fool.

Owusu Bempah alleged that KKD spoke from animosity and resentment and questioned his capacity for reason. On July 31, 2023, Owusu Bempah expressed his opinion that the remarks by KKD were inappropriate and nonsensical during an interview with Neat FM.

He stated that KKD’s emotional position and condemnation of the individual responsible for the “Breaking the Eight” slogan were unjustified and cited KKD’s extensive media history in Ghana.

Owusu Bempah continued by bringing up some perceived problems in KKD’s family, focusing on his son’s support of LGBTQI+ rights abroad. He suggested that KKD first solve these issues before condemning others because his moral standing should start in his own home.

“First of all, KKD I think that he has a problem, he himself personally …since my breastfeeding days that I heard of KKD, when he was wearing big chains and a hat with a suit and others …so, for him, he has seen all previous governments and for him to come and comment that the person who coined ‘breaking the eight’ doesn’t have sense, then it means he has said something uncalled for….

“Even his line of argument is below the bar, for anybody like him to speak like that, you can see that all that he is saying is borne out of bitterness…his utterances are not borne out reasonable thinking, the way he is talking he is speaking out of emotional hatred, that is how he is speaking,” he said.

“Was KKD asleep when a certain president went to Kyebi to say that, Kyebi is the headquarters of Galamsey, were we not here when Aisha Huang brought Chanfang to mine Galamsey, wasn’t he here?

“Today his son is standing in America, Britain advocating for gays…his elder son is standing in Britain, can Kwesi Darkwah say that his father who gave birth to him and took care of him, told him to allow his son to become gay? If he knows how to address issues, he should address his household issues.

“For someone with Presbyterian upbringing, this is one of the most abominable lifestyles the son is bringing out…he should talk about his household’s issues if he wants to talk about others.”

KKD was in the news recently when he said “breaking the 8” mantra for the 2024 elections is pointless. He claimed that whoever came up with the NPP’s slogan to “break the 8” lacks basic sense.

During an interview with TV XYZ, KKD blasted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, saying that he had broken a campaign promise to take action on galamsey, meaning illegal mining.

“Things that you were supposed to do to break the eight, if you would have done it, there wouldn’t be any need for a campaign. Because of Galamsey, you bet with your presidency. You people should play the time that the president said that he would put his president on a bet to fight Galamsey for me. Who are you deceiving here?” he said.

He argued that the government’s promises were no longer trustworthy after the president failed to follow through on this crucial subject. “The person who coined ‘breaking the 8’ doesn’t have sense; you people should mention the name for me, the person doesn’t have sense, we have book sense and common sense.”

“Imagine you married a wife, and during the marriage, you couldn’t buy anything for your wife, she has become dirty, and all her clothes are torn, your children, you didn’t take care of them… You couldn’t take those who were sick to the hospital, and all of a sudden then you want to leave, then a different person comes to marry her…then you realise that that is the time you want to do good to her… fool, why didn’t you do those things initially?” he added.
