Veteran Ghanaian Musician, Naa DK Dies In UK

Gifty Collins, known widely by her stage name as Gifty Naa DK, a Ghanaian artist living in the UK and known for songs like Now Come Another Day, Wo Baaya, and Beiko Ne Eho, among others, has reportedly died.

Henry Obodai Squire-Tetteh, the CEO of Flyboy Worldwide Record Label, announced the tragic passing last Friday. Henry Obodai claimed that the musician passed away on February 23, 2023, at the age of 72, following a brief illness, though he did not specify what caused her passing.

Henry Obodai said that even though it was so difficult to comprehend, death had laid its cold paws on the musician he had worked with for years.

Henry Obodai added that he could not believe that he had lost a “sister.” Gifty Collins had been a part of the music business for more than a half-century and had released over seven albums.

In other showbiz news previously shared by Tru News Report, it came to light that Music executive and Artiste manager George Mensah Britton has slammed Ghanaians for downplaying Bisa KDei’s artistry despite his huge talent.

Britton clarified the facts during an interview on TV3 New Day with AJ Sarpong and Berla Mundi about funding musicians as well as the entertainment industry.

Despite being regarded as one of Ghana’s leading musical voices, Bisa Kdei has earned the moniker “funeral singer” due to its popularity, particularly with funeral attendees. Britton thinks the tag is inaccurate and demeaning of Bisa Kdei’s years of dedication and skill.

“One of the artists people really look down on in this country is Bisa Kdei. They tag him as a funeral singer but he is in a lot of top conversations. I mean a few days ago there was Grammy conversation and the only Ghanaian guy whose name was featured was Bisa Kdei,”.

Britton emphasized further that as long as they are prepared to put in the effort, every musician deserves the chance to represent Ghanaian music on a global scale.

“This person deserves it, and another doesn’t” should not exist when it comes to pushing an act internationally. Each person who sees music as a business and wants to take it upon themselves to do it right deserves to be pushed.
