Veteran Rapper Eldee Sparks Debate Online After He Claimed His Father Brought Internet To Nigeria

Veteran Nigerian musician Eldee, has asserted that his father was the first to introduce the internet to that country.

In a recent interview with media personality JOI, the singer-turned-realtor made the assertion and added that his father was entirely to blame for the founding of computer enterprises at the time, including cybercafés.

The artist, who now resides in the United States with his family, claimed that despite studying architecture at university, his father had taught him the basics of information and communications technology.

Eldee said; “My dad was the person that brought the internet, the very first person that brought the internet to Nigeria. So, he set up pretty much everyone; all the companies that initially, all the first cybercafés that you know. All of those connections came through my popcy.

“He was an IT guy. So, naturally, by association, I dey very align to IT even though I studied architecture.”

Eldee biography

Eldee’s real name is Lanre Dabiri. He is a retired Nigerian-American rapper, singer, and record producer based in the United States.

The northern geopolitical region of Nigeria’s Kaduna state is where eLDee was born on May 23, 1977. His hometown is Lagos Island in Nigeria’s Lagos State. He is a part of the group Trybesmen, which the rappers KB and Freestyle founded in 1998. His five solo albums are available.

He claimed in 2019 that he did not regret giving up music because the direction his career was taking would prevent him from having time for his family.

He was included in Netng’s list of the 56 best Nigerian entertainers of all time on October 1, 2016, for his contributions to the music industry and for creating the first official Nigerian airplay chart, known as Playdata, to track the number of songs played on radio.

One of the creators of the afrobeats music genre is recognized as eLDee. He formed the group Trybesmen in 1998, and they went on to become one of the bands responsible for popularizing the blend of hip-hop, highlife, pop, and traditional afrobeat music. By the year 2000, Trybesmen had achieved continental success and had significantly influenced the development of the new musical subgenre.
