Kennedy Agyapong, known for his unpredictable nature and controversial statements, surprisingly acknowledged the victory of Bawumia and expressed his willingness to collaborate with him in order to challenge John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 elections.
The outspoken politician, who has often caused headaches within his own party due to his behavior and remarks, emphasized the importance of unity among members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in order to secure victory against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections.
Despite his participation in the NPP presidential primaries, Mr. Agyapong gracefully accepted his defeat in the recent presidential primaries of the party. He urged all party members to set aside any grievances from the elections and unite in order to achieve success in the 2024 general elections.
“I believe the party has been fair and transparent. That is the only thing I have always been preaching, this election is fair, my grassroots have spoken, I accept the results in good faith,” he said.
He added “we are going to work tirelessly to break the 8. We should put everything behind us and let us unite this party, with unity I believe we can break the 8, that is all I have been preaching for,. I congratulate the Election Committee, Police, EC, and the party members for the commitment you have shown for peace. We have to come together and give the NDC a showdown.”
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was formally proclaimed the victor by the Ghanaian Electoral Commission (EC).
Out of 193,346 total votes cast, he received 118,210 to win. His votes account for 61.47 percent of all legitimate ballots cast. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a member of parliament (MP) for Assin Central, was his closest opponent with 71,996 votes, or 37.41 percent, to finish second.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former minister of agriculture and food, came in third place with 1,459 votes, or 0.76 percent of the total. Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former Mampong MP, came in second with 781 votes, or 0.41 percent of the total.
