Why Cardi B Says She’s Now A Mexican

Bodak Yellow hitmaker Cardi B thought of a clever way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by showcasing some funny dancing moves.

Additionally, she has made fun of her purported Mexican origin. Mexicans commemorate their victory against the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 by celebrating Cinco de Mayo on May 5 every year.

In honour of this festival, the Bronx rapper posted a video to Twitter in which she performs to a remix of the popular Mexican classic “La Chona.”

“HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO you filthy Americans !!!!!,” she wrote in the post’s caption.

Following her post, a fan commented that she was “never beating the Mexican allegations,” to which she responded and pointed out that since it had already been alleged that she was Mexican, she should “embrace” her roots.

“I mean they claim I’m Mexican… I might as well embrace my new nationality lol,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet. In reality, however, the rapper has Dominican and Trinidadian roots.

Every year on May 5, Mexico celebrates Cinco de Mayo to commemorate General Ignacio Zaragoza’s victory against the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. At the Second War of Puebla, a more powerful French force ultimately routed the Mexican army and seized Mexico City.

A few months after the war, Zaragoza went suddenly from illness. However, the United States began giving money and weapons to the liberals in Mexico when the American Civil War finished in 1865, putting France and the conservatives in Mexico on the verge of defeat.

French forces will be withdrawn from Mexico, Napoleon III declared at the opening of the French parliament in January 1866.

The American secretary of state, William H. Seward, responded to a French call for American neutrality by stating that French disengagement from Mexico should be complete.
