Why I Did Not Feature Mcbrown, Kwaku Manu, Others In My New Movie—Lilwin
Lilwin has finally responded to the concerns raised about his decision to include Nigerian actors in his new movie, A Country Called Ghana.
Following the announcement of his star-studded lineup, which includes Nollywood actors Victor Osuagwu and Charles Awurum, as well as a few actors from Ghana, many Ghanaians have expressed their reservations.
During an interview on Power FM, Lilwin explained that he wants his movies to have a global appeal, which is why he chose not to limit himself to Ghanaian actors and actresses.
The comedic actor expressed his confusion over why Ghanaians would question his decision to feature Nigerian stars as if it were a wrongdoing.
To support his argument, Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin mentioned that in his previous films, such as Cocoa Season and Papa No he had featured numerous Ghanaian actors and actresses, but the movies did not achieve the level of success he had hoped for.
He further emphasized that featuring international stars is a common practice in American movies, where Chinese and Indian actors are often included to cater to a global audience.
“People are questioning why I involved Nigerian artists, but the truth is without international stars it will be difficult for the movie to thrive. Even American movies sometimes, feature Chinese and Indian movie stars. So why are people complaining because I featured Nigerian artists in my movie?”, he said.
Lilwin also mentioned that he chose not to include actors such as Bill Asamoah, Emelia Brobbey, Kwaku Manu, Nana Ama McBrown, and several others in his movie due to the impossibility of featuring everyone.
“I don’t understand. Can you feature all Ghanaian movie stars in one movie? No. So if you want to make strides you have to feature outsiders because it’s not meant to be consumed by Ghanaians alone but internationally when I upload it on Netflix. Nigerian music artists feature Chris Brown, Eminem, and other international stars because they want global recognition,” he added.
