“She went into it thinking she was going to foster young talent. For her good intentions to be misinterpreted it was not what she wanted,” a source told Daily Mail. “She has accomplished so much in her career and is now being looked at as a nasty reality show judge.”

On another occasion, Perry received jeers from the crowd for urging Nutsa Buzaladze to tone down her trademark glitter. She was also criticized by fans for engaging in “psychological warfare” when she led a number of candidates to believe they were eliminated when they were actually moving on to the next round.

The Grammy-nominated performer would be reneging on a rumoured $25 million deal per season if she were to leave the long-running program, which she has been a part of since its 2018 relaunch alongside co-judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

The insider asserts that Perry is more concerned about the potential harm it has caused to her legacy than it is about the money.

“[Katy’s decision to quit] is not a money thing,” they shared. “For her, it is starting to be more of a legacy issue. She does not want her career defined by a talent competition show where she isn’t even performing.”
