You Make Profit Too – Mr Drew Shades Kaywa
Mr Drew has aimed a dig at his former boss Kaywa for supposedly being bitter about his exit from his (Kaywa) record label- Highly Spiritual.
Mr Drew gained fame in 2017 as the first runner-up on MTN Hitmaker Season 6, following which he joined Kaywa’s Highly Spiritual Music label and went on to establish himself as one of the formidable brands in showbiz in Ghana. He however abandoned his ship recently, fueling reports frosty relationship between them.
Apparently, after Mr Drew decided not to extend his contract, which expired in late 2022, the label’s creator, Kaywa, has been quietly teasing him on social media due to his exit from the label after a five-year stint.
The singer and dancer emphasised in a recent interview that when an artiste and their management part ways, the latter portray them as ungrateful. He made this known in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, saying that signing with a label requires effort and does not entail the label giving you a platform or a chance out of altruism.
“If somebody is on a label to work, it’s work. Don’t see it as the label is giving you the platform or the opportunity. You are there to work and when the money starts coming in, the label is going to take their cut. So, it’s not some sort of grace or favour they are rendering to you.”
The seeming feud became conspicuous after Mr Drew nonetheless thanked Kaywa for the opportunity he gave him to shape his career soon after he left his record label.
Mr Drew wrote: “An appreciation post to Papa @kaywabeatz and @highlyspiritualmusic for working with me to make an impact with my talent. I am most grateful for everything you have done for me as an artist and a son. “Even though my time on the label has ended we are still family and I cherish that dearly.. God bless you 🫶🏾”
Mr Drew’s post didn’t go down well with Kaywa who lashed out at him for his ‘fake’ gratitude.
“Gratitude goes beyond Instagram post. Your deeds must also show!!” Kaywa fired back at his former artist.
