Accra Floods: MzVee Blames Ghanaians

She argues that citizens must bear some responsibility for the problem of improper garbage disposal.

During an interview on Cape Coast’s Property FM, MzVee said that the government is partly to blame for the city’s poor drainage. However, she emphasised that citizens cannot be exonerated of blame because of their reckless behaviour and sloppy way of life, both of which worsen the flooding crisis.

“Our drainage system is really horrible, and the government has to look at that. We can’t blame everything on the government, although the government is to be blamed a lot, but I feel the citizens must also take the blame… If you see the amount of plastic bottles, I don’t think the government came to put them there, so I think we’re all to blame for these things,” she said.

In addition, MzVee stressed how important it is for people to take greater responsibility for how they dispose of waste, particularly plastic bottles, in order to help address the issue. She urged people to take personal accountability for addressing the country’s flooding crisis.

MzVee made these remarks in the midst of outrage over the government’s performance. A group calling itself Democracy Hub recently held a 3-day street protest under the hashtag #OccupyJulorbi House, which quickly went viral on social media and attracted the support of many well-known Ghanaians who demanded better leadership and economic management.
