Accra To London: Group Arrive Safely In London

The social media buzz shrouding the Accra-London adventure embarked on by a group of daring men and a single woman (Wanderlust Ghana) reached a crescendo after the group finally reached their destination.

On Sunday, August 6, 2023, the group reached London after days spent travelling and savouring nature. The trip’s organizers, Wanderlust Ghana, disclosed that they arrived at midday GMT (1:00 pm BST).

In a video posted online, the gang celebrated their historic drive and expressed their joy. On Sunday, July 23, 2023, they left Accra and began their journey across the globe by car.

They passed through Aburi, Nsawam, Kumasi, and Sunyani on the way to Dormaa, where they then entered Cote d’Ivoire via Golokrom. With five distinct Ghanaian-registered vehicles—a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon, two Toyota Landcruisers (V8), a Lexus RX 350, and a Ford F150 Raptor—they began their voyage as a party of twelve individuals.

Due to other factors, the number of passengers gradually decreased during their drive, but the other passengers remained on board for the historic trip.

On average, the group travelled 800 to 900 kilometres per day. By Friday, August 4, 2023, the intrepid group had crossed five African nations—Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco—arrived in Europe via the Mediterranean ferry at Algeciras, Spain, and then travelled by car to Barcelona through Valencia.

They discussed some of the difficulties they faced as they traveled across the desert and how some of the Toyota vehicles had their brake pads changed numerous times while the others were still on the road.

In one of their viral episodes, the expeditioners revealed how Abedi Pele’s name ‘saved the day’ for them when they reached Morocco.

The group spoke to Peace FM’s Kwame Sefa Kayi aka Chairman General to update Ghanaians about their exciting trip wherein they revealed how the name of three times African Player of the Year made their journey heartwarming when they got to Morocco.

The group known as Wanderlust Ghana revealed in an interview how Abedi Pele’s name got a Moroccan policeman to give them a presidential escort.

“Sincerely Chairman-General, it’s not as it’s always reported in all fairness. Apart from our experience on the Mauritania border, all other countries have been receptive and nice but for border crossing and petty extortion from immigration officials, generally, it’s been a nice experience. People are happy” a member of the expedition told Kwame Sefa-Kai. Read more about it by clicking here.
