I Want To Drive From Ghana To South Africa – John Dumelo

John Dumelo, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry who has also ventured into politics, has publicly announced his intention to embark on a journey by road from Ghana to South Africa.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant-hopeful for Ayawaso West Wuogon stated his desire to go between the two countries by vehicle in a tweet: “I want to drive from Ghana to South Africa.”

This comes after a group of 13 courageous Ghanaians, called Wanderlust Ghana, drove from Accra to London, a distance of 10,000 kilometres.

They set out from Accra on Sunday, July 23, 2023, and drove through Aburi, Nsawam, Kumasi, and Sunyani before arriving in Dormaa and crossing into Cote d’Ivoire from there via the Golokrom border crossing.

Twelve people set off on the trip in five different vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, two Toyota Landcruisers (V8), a Lexus RX 350, and a Ford F150 Raptor, all of which are registered in Ghana. During their drive, the group’s size gradually reduced for various reasons, but those who remained on their historic quest proceeded.

The group often covered between 800 and 900 kilometres per day while driving. By Friday, August 4, 2023, the group had arrived in Monaco after travelling via five African countries: Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco; taking a ferry across the Mediterranean to Algeciras, Spain; driving to Barcelona, Spain; and finally arriving in Monaco.

On August 24, 2019, John Dumelo won the NDC parliamentary primaries to represent the NDC in Ayawaso West Wougon Constituency in the 2020 General Elections. Dumelo successfully launched his campaign manifesto for the 2020 Election on Sunday 18 October 2020 promising to commit half of his salary to youth development in the constituency if voted for.
