“Akufo-Addo’s Campaign Promises Have Been Nothing But A Scam” – Asiedu Nketia

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that President Akufo-Addo has proven to be deceitful in his interactions with Ghanaians, and hence his words can no longer be trusted.

On March 20, 2023, during a forum titled “The True State of the Nation,” Mr. Nketia declared that the president’s entire tenure as president has been a “scam,” despite his many promises and assurances.

“During this crisis, nothing the President says can be believed because everything he has said has proven to be untrue. Ghanaians have come to realise that the claim by the President that he knew how to revive a dead economy was a scam. ‘We are a proud nation, we are not going to the IMF’ was a scam and there will be no haircut was a scam. he said.

According to Mr. Asiedu Nketia, President Akufo-Addo has also fallen short of his “Agenda 111” promise to construct hospitals around the country.

“The promise to build 88 district hospitals within a year was a scam, ‘Agenda 111’ project is a scam, the promise to abolish road toll was a scam. The promise to convert toll booths to modern public toilets was a scam, the claim that there was a global shortage of childhood vaccines was a scam, and no state funds will finance the national cathedral was a scam.” he added.

Mr. Nketia also said the government has sabotaged the economy and is now putting the blame on the COVID-19 outbreak and other external forces. He said the pandemic is not the main reason Ghana is struggling financially. According to him, the country received “an unexpected profit” of almost GH30 billion from COVID-19.
