“We Lack Complete Trust In The NIA And Other State Agencies” – Asiedu Nketiah

The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, claims that the NDC leadership does not trust the National Identification Authority (NIA) owing to the NIA’s inaccurate communication on the topic of the Ghana Card.

He said people shouldn’t take the NIA seriously because its executive secretary, Prof. Ken Attafuah, broke his pledge to provide Ghana Cards to all citizens by the end of the year 2022.

On March 14, 2023, Aseidu Nketiah lamented the situation in an interview on Joy News’ “The Pulse,” noting that “the cause of this problem is the lack of complete trust between us (the NDC) and the NIA and other state agencies.”

“Where are we now? We’re approaching the end of March 2023, and they’re still replacing those promises with other promises. In other jurisdictions, Ken Attafuah would have resigned because we are discussing state business and you come and swear on your honor that this is what we have put in place,” he said.

“It’s state business, and we must all work together to make it happen, and I am going to play this part within three months, Now that it’s been six months and more, and what you promised hasn’t happened, do you think you are entitled to be listened to?” He added.

Several NDC members have voiced strong opposition to the planned C.I. by the EC, which would mandate the EC to use Ghana Card alone to register residents for the new voter ID cards. They claim the Electoral Commission is trying to rig the 2024 elections with the help of the new C.I. On February 28, 2023, Jean Mensa went to Parliament to talk about the proposed Constitutional Instrument (CI) that her team had submitted to the House.
