AU Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary On May 25th

On Thursday, May 25, the countries that make up the African Union will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which is now the AU.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana announced in a news release that a flag-raising ceremony event would be held in the forecourt of the State House to celebrate Ghana’s role as host of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The function will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. on May 25. The African Group of the Diplomatic Corps, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, and the AfCFTA Secretariat are all collaborating on this.

This year’s African Union (AU) anniversary is being celebrated with the theme “Our Africa, Our Future,” which refers to the AU’s stated aim of speeding up the process of implementing the AfCFTA.

The goal is to highlight the importance of free trade among African countries as a flagship project towards making the Africa that governments seek a reality.

The Member States of the African Union would on 25 May, 2023, commemorate the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU). Unlike the 1960s, when our main preoccupation was the political liberation of the African continent from the shackles of colonialism and imperialism, our collective goal now is the socio-economic emancipation of the African continent.

However, without peace, security, and stability, the realisation of economic growth, collective progress, and prosperity for the benefit of the peoples of Africa will continue to elude the continent.

“For this reason, African leaders remain committed to addressing the challenges of food insecurity. energy crisis, declining democracy, climate change, health issues, internal conflicts, terrorism, and violent extremism facing the continent towards attainment of our development blueprint as encapsulated in Agenda 2063.” parts of the statement reads.
