Busta Rhymes Reveals How 2Pac Wrote 7 Different Songs to Same Beat After Shooting a Police Officer

During a recent appearance on Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson’s All the Smoke podcast, Busta Rhymes paid tribute to the late 2Pac by highlighting his remarkable creativity.

The veteran Brooklyn rapper shared an anecdote about their unforgettable studio session, where he revealed that he wrote an impressive seven songs to a single beat.

This discussion shed light on Busta Rhymes’ deep admiration for ‘Pac and the profound impact he had on the music industry.

“When ‘Pac got back from [Atlanta, where he shot an off-duty police officer], ‘Pac became super [paranoid] because he felt like the cops were out to kill him no matter what state he was in,” he said.

“He had gotten a wild arsenal. He kept an MPC beat machine in the crib and I literally watched him write about seven songs to the same Isley Brothers sample. Each song was about different shit. I couldn’t understand that.

“After a while, I get tired of hearing the motherfucking beat. I don’t wanna hear that beat to write no more songs to it. I write the one song to it, I’m off the damn beat. He wrote seven songs to the same beat!”

On September 13, 1996, Tupac Shakur tragically passed away after being shot four times in the chest by an assailant in a white Cadillac at a stoplight in Las Vegas.

Despite a thorough investigation conducted by the Los Angeles Times in 2002, the case remained unresolved due to uncooperative witnesses and a lack of pursuit in exploring gang-related leads. In the initial part of this extensively read investigation, written by the esteemed journalist Chuck Philips, the identity of Shakur’s murderer was analyzed in great detail.

Philips presented compelling evidence suggesting that the Southside Crips, a gang based in Compton, California, were responsible for the assassination.

Shakur had affiliations with the Mob Piru Bloods, a street gang that frequently clashed with the Crips over territory and personal disputes. One particular incident involved Shakur and his Bloods bodyguards assaulting Orlando Anderson, a member of the Crips, in the lobby of a Mike Tyson boxing match venue.

According to Philips, this altercation prompted Anderson to seek retribution from his fellow gang members, who agreed to carry out the act.

Additionally, Philips proposed that Shakur’s rival, the New York rapper Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace, provided the firearm and had previously offered to compensate the Crips if they successfully eliminated Shakur.

The animosity between Shakur and Wallace had escalated to the point where Wallace was willing to pay the Crips a staggering $1 million for the murder.

Philips’s article revealed that Anderson utilized Wallace’s .40-caliber Glock pistol to carry out the fatal shooting. Tragically, both Anderson and Wallace met their own untimely deaths within two years of Shakur’s passing.
