Cape Coast Branches Of ECG & SSNIT Forced To Close Down Because Of Unpaid Property Rates

Offices of the ECG and SSNIT were forced to close down in Cape Coast On Monday, February 13, 2023, because of property rates.

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly decided to shut down the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) because since 2021, the Assembly claims, the company has failed to pay property taxes and fees for obtaining licenses to conduct business.

The Assembly also shut down the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) office that was located in the Central Regional capital.

According to Ghana News Agency, the operation did not only affect the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) “The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has shut down offices of the Electricity Company of Ghana and SSNIT for non-payment of property rate and business operating permits to the tune of GH₵140,000. ECG had not complied since 2021 and SSNIT, 2022.”

There have been reports that since last year, SSNIT has not made payments. It can be roughly estimated that the two businesses owe the Assembly a total of GH140,000.
